"I've hunted birds over George's dogs from the Idaho Mountains to the piney woods of Georgia. For style and dash, elegance and grace, and sheer performance, they are the canine equivalent of a best London gun."  MICHAEL MCINTOSH, WORLD-TRAVELING WINGSHOOTER, AND AUTHOR

The English setter bred for the field exhibits style, grace, and beauty. The field-bred English setter, from a strong gene pool of proven field trial champions, is a top contender for those upland wingshooters seeking a handsome dog that graces the upland covets with bird-finding performance and class.

Today's field-bred English setters have evolved over several centuries into a premier breed of gun dogs with exceptional bird finding genetics.

Breed Characteristics

The English setter bred for the field is smaller and more athletic than the larger, slower show lines of English setters. Owners seeking performers in the field need to distinguish between the hunting gene pool and the show lines of English setters. The English setter that evolved from the heritage of field-trial champions possesses the qualities of conformation, endurance, and strong hunting and pointing instincts required of the successful gun dog.

Stonecreek English setters are the ideal blend of athleticism, stamina, and style. The Stoncreek English setter is a bragging-rights upland hunting companion and a dog that would make any sportsman proud. Our setters are developed from lines producing national champion bird finders. Stonecreek English setters' pedigrees are a testimony to the great dogs that have proven their bird finding abilities by capturing wild bird championships.

Temperament

Stonecreek English setters possess a friendly, good-natured temperament. Our English setters are people dogs that adapt well to family households.

Health

The life expectancy for the English setter is between ten to twelve years. The field-bred English setter is relatively free of genetic health problems, but as with all breeds some risks do exist. Owners seeking an English setter should ascertain that the parents have been X-rayed to minimize the possibility of orthopedic abnormalities in the progeny. Field-bred lines of English setters exhibit fewer problems than the show lines. At Stonecreek Kennels we X-ray all of our dogs at the appropriate ages.

Care

The feathering and hair coat will require regular grooming to keep the coat shiny and free of burrs.

Breeding Program

For more than three decades discerning wingshooters have gunned over our dogs. You likely have read about them or have seen them in action on television.

At Stonecreek Kennels we develop bird dogs that make valued family companions. We are proud of the international reputation our dogs have earned. Our dogs' pedigrees boast National Champion and Hall of Fame field-trial winners. The focus of our English setter breeding program is to ensure that Stonecreek dogs exhibit exceptional style and smarts, display superb conformation and trainability; and are fun to be around.

"Hunting behind George's dogs is a pure joy."
