"I've hunted birds over George's dogs from the Idaho Mountains to the piney woods of Georgia. For style and dash, elegance and grace, and sheer performance, they are the canine equivalent of a best London gun."  MICHAEL MCINTOSH, WORLD-TRAVELING WINGSHOOTER, AND AUTHOR

The English pointer is a genetically talented bird dog that exhibits strong bird finding and pointing instincts. The American Field Stud Dog Book registry now registers the breed as "pointer" and has dropped the designation of "English pointer."

Breed Characteristics

The pointer is a loyal family member and hunting companion. The breed has an exceptional sense of smell and is an early developing gun dog. Well-bred pointer puppies are pointing at eight weeks of age.

At Stonecreek Kennels we breed pointers that have a high level of intelligence and an eagerness to learn. The versatility of our Stonecreek pointers is proven in the strength of their pedigrees. As a competitor, the pointer has garnered national championships in the walking grouse and woodcock field trials, pheasant championships, and a multitude of other wild bird championships.

Temperament

Stonecreek pointers are an excellent choice for the owner seeking a hunting dog that will both excel in the upland bird covers and be a trusted, loyal household pet and family member. As a breed, the pointer is extremely good-natured with children, enjoys being around people, and gets along well with other animals.

Health

Being a genetically healthy breed, pointers are not prone to a number of inherited diseases and disorders. The breed does not demonstrate a high propensity for hip dysplasia or other orthopedic problems.

Care

The pointer is an easy keeper. Because of the pointer's short hair coat he requires little in the way of grooming. An environment that protects the dog from cold and is clean and dry will help keep him healthy.

Breeding Program

For more than three decades discerning wingshooters have gunned over our dogs. You likely have read about them or have seen them in action on television.

Bird-finding ability, trainability, and level headedness are important traits of the personal gun dog that we develop for the upland wingshooter. As professional bird hunting guides we demand dogs that find birds, train easily, and radiate blue ribbon style. Developing dogs that exhibit these qualities and are a pleasure to be around is what Stonecreek Kennels is all about.

"Under George's hands his young dogs are eager for advanced training; his started dogs most hunters would be proud to call 'finished'; and his broke dogs hold point better than anything you've ever seen."
