George
Hickox has a passion for developing bird dogs.

knowledge of canine behavior through the George Hickox School of
Dog Training.

Gary
Wilkes' experience and knowledge regarding behavior
modification and his complete understanding of both positive and
corrective training tools in conjunction with George Hickox's
savvy in the world of bird dogs brings a fantastic opportunity to
students attending the
training schools. Both dogs and students will benefit
monumentally. The
pairing of Gary's and George's experiences and understanding of dog
training offers a unique learning environment for dog owners and
their dog at any level and experience.
Gary
created clicker training for dogs over twenty years ago.
His dissatisfaction with training methods that were not
effective in developing a dog that would respond to training with
eagerness and style committed Gary to find ways to fix the canine
behavioral problems that plague a large majority of dog owners.
Wilkes' clicker training methods are road tested under
virtually every working or sporting condition.
He has clicker trained dogs for hunting, tracking, search
and rescue, assistance dog work, competition, obedience, and
agility. Gary has
given seminars nationally and internationally to hunt clubs,
police K-9 officers, assistance dog trainers, zoo trainers, and
spoken at veterinary and scientific conferences.
He brings an unparalleled knowledge of this exciting process
to the world of gundogs with an assurance that "this dog
hunts".
Wilkes
was educated at Oregon State and Arizona State Universities.
Gary is a member of and has lectured to the Association for
Behavior Analysis-an international professional organization of
experimental psychologists. He
is the recipient of the association's award for "Effective
Presentation of Behavior Analysis in the Mass Media”. Gary has been featured on Scientific Frontiers hosted by Alan
Alda for his work with the MIT Media lab with artificial
intelligence. Wilkes
taught animal behavior to graduate level students at the Ethology
Institute in Denmark and is currently an associate professor of
animal behavior at Arizona State University.
Gary Wilkes is a feature writer and columnist for Off- Lead and
Animal Behavior magazine.
